Critical Thinking, Rigorous Writing

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Common Core rejects the application of rote, flat student writing, privileging instead opportunities for students to write as critical thinkers. The task of teaching students to analyze and synthesize multiple text-rich documents before presenting well-formed, well-articulated solutions can seem daunting to teachers and administrators–but it doesn’t have to be. During this presentation, learn practical takeaways to facilitate challenging but accessible writing instruction in the classroom. Research-vetted strategies will include guided revision, genre-by-genre debriefs, “chunking” writing processes, manageable rubrics and embedded mentor text. Additionally, the presentation will directly address strategies to demystify writing-based lesson plans, empowering teachers to feel more confident in their pedagogy and more prepared to propel students to higher levels of achievement.
