The New CPSEL's: Changing School Climate

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

The historical approach to addressing behavior issues, through suspension and expulsion, is resulting in poor educational outcomes for students and disproportionately impacting students of color and other vulnerable groups. This is why the Commission on Teacher Credentialing recently adopted significant revisions to the California Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (CPSEL’s) highlighting the importance of culturally responsive, research-based, student centered classroom management and school-wide positive discipline intervention and prevention strategies that address the social and mental health needs of the child with the goal of keeping all students in school and on course toward graduation. By fall of 2015, programs of professional preparation for administrators will need to align with these CTC actions. This session will inform current administrators of the changes expected to occur and provide strategies to address not only academics but also the social and emotional learning that can positively affect school climate, student discipline, and student health.
