Visual Literacy: Silver Bullet for the Common Core

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

As your students move from compliance and regurgitation (NCLB) to thinking and creativity (Common Core), you can harness Visual Literacy to facilitate the welcome shift. Come learn where your teachers can find free images to introduce topics and spur higher-order thinking skills. Learn to apply Marzano’s research on juxtaposing images, and get a free iPad app to implement this practice in your classrooms. Experience a small-group activity for visual storytelling (a hoot for your own presentations!) that also works to assess students’ prior knowledge, introduce new content, and review, report, and assess critical course curriculum. Get tips for using student-created slideshows and videos as learning tools, instructional resources, and proof of learning (assessments). Get a resource-rich handout with links to research, replicable student projects, and hilarious video clips. Help yourself to tangible giveaways including dark chocolate (seriously), koosh balls (not so seriously), and enter to win a widescreen Epson projector!
